A Good touring ski is one that provides efficiency for the climb as well as a solid downhill performance for the descent. Traditionally, light, touring-specific skis lacked the capabilities of a more robust ski as a result of shedding weight to make the ascent a bit easier on the skier. The Volkl Rise Beyond 96 is a lightweight touring set design to take you beyond the ropes o the resort and provide you with an exceptional ski performance. Volkl uses their Tourlite Hybrid wood core which is comprised of Beech underfoot, and a mix of Poplar and Paulownia in the outer portions of the ski. As a result, you get a very light ski that maintains good stability and responsiveness similar to that of an all-mountain ski. The shape and profile of the Rise Beyond 96 lend themselves to premium backcountry performance. 96 underfoot is plenty wide to handle deep snow, but it stays light enough to remain efficient. A bit of camber underfoot helps with edge hold when the conditions are less than favorable, and a bit of tip rocker helps the ski plane out nicely in the soft stuff. Add in some early taper in the tips and tails and you have a ski that slices and dices through almost any snow condition imaginable outside the ropes. Pair this ski up with a low profile AT binding like the Marker Alpinist and you have a setup that will let you run up to the top of any line you want to ski. Advanced to expert skiers looking for a new touring ski will love the performance of the new Volkl Rise Beyond 96.
